Weekly Update June 22-26, 2015
For the last week of school we have all sorts of activities planned for the students. It's guaranteed to be a fun week for everybody!
Tuesday: Tuesday is FUN DAY!! And also Crazy Hair/Hat Day! There will be regular classes in the morning and then the festivities will begin in the afternoon. We are asking all parents to make sure their children are dressed appropriately for the weather - rain or shine.
Wednesday: After all their hard work on their PATs, and it being their last year at Willow Park, we think our grade 6 students deserve to have their very own Fun Day! Make sure to dress appropriately for any activities planned.
Thursday: In the morning, we will be holding our Awards Ceremony, beginning at 8:40 am in the gym. Today we will be awarding those students who have shown outstanding Citizenship, Effort, and Academic efforts throughout the year. This year we have also added an Athletic category for grades 3-6. We will also be awarding one grade 6 student with the Hal Rogers "Good Citizen" Award.
Right after the Awards Ceremony there will be a Volunteer Appreciation Tea in the library. This is our way of giving back to all the volunteers that have helped our 2014-2015 school year so successful.
In the afternoon, the Kindergarten classes will be enjoying some year-end activities in the gym from 1-2 pm.
Friday: At 10:30 am the Grade 6 Farewell Ceremony will begin. The students will receive their Elementary Scrolls, there will be a slideshow, and the staff will say farewell. All the best in your next chapter, guys!
Mrs. Clarke's Kindergarten class will be heading to Safety City for a field trip.

Weekly Update June 15-19, 2015
We are in the single digits! As of today, there are 9 days of school left! There are lots of fun activities (for the staff and students) going on this week.
Just a couple things to acknowledge before we get into the weekly news:- The Black Gold Transportation department sent out a text message/phone call informing parents of the new busing fee for the 2015-2016 school year. For a full explanation of what fee applies to you and your child, please visit our website at wps.blackgold.ca. Under the Parents tab, click on Transportation.
To pay online, parents will need a PowerSchool account. For those who do not have a PowerSchool account set up, you will need your child(ren)'s unique Access ID & Password to do so. This information can be provided by the office upon request, but because of high demand, it may take a couple days to get sent home. Thank you for your understanding!
- If there are any families of Willow Park that would like to help with the silent auction for Kayden Peters, please contact Mrs. Marcy Wrzaskala or Mrs. Susan Marshall at the school for more information. The office will do their best to get your messages to them as soon as possible.
Monday: The Planeview residents that Mrs. Halwa's grade 5 students adopted came to visit the school. The students hosted a tea in the library with delicious treats and friendly conversation. The grade 5s did an excellent job of keeping their friends entertained!
Tuesday: Grades 1-6 will be visited by the Discover-E Team for a science presentation. The units the teams are teaching will complement the students' current science units.
- The AAP class is going bowling. Have fun, guys! Who doesn't love bowling?
- The grade 3 classes are heading to 4Cats Art Studio for a field trip.
Wednesday: PAT testing continues for the grade 6 students. The students will write Part 2 of their Language Arts PAT.

Weekly Update June 8-12, 2015
This week will be a fun learning week for the students - lots of field trips!
Before we get into the weekly news, here's a couple extra updates for you:With the help of some of our staff, Willow Park participated in Art Week. Each grade level was instructed to do a self-portrait in a specific color that the Art Committee will then display in the shape of a rainbow. The portraits are beautiful and are an interesting view on how the students view themselves! When the rainbow is complete, it should be an awesome sight.
Along with the portraits, each grade level was given a specific art project to complete. The projects include pastels, sculptures, watercolor, charcoal, paint, and even a little bit of technology. The students have worked very hard on their projects and now have them displayed on specific bulletin boards around the school, ready for the Art Gallery Walk. Parents are more than welcome to have a look at the amazing work the children have done!
As of today, June 8th, Willow Park School has raised $2105 for Jump Rope for Heart! The school's goal is $3000. Earlier last week when we had checked online, we had only raised $550. What a "jump"! Great job, everybody and thank you to all those who have donated so far!
Now onto the weekly news...
Monday: Our little pre-kindergarten students went to the zoo today! Although the day was a little overcast, it was still the perfect weather for all that walking.
The much anticipated Drumheller field trip has arrived. Both Mr. Mackiewich's and Mrs. Peterson's grade 4 classes made their way to Drumheller today for their overnight field trip. We hope the students and volunteers have a great time!
Tuesday: We expect our grade 4 students back this afternoon.
Wednesday: Today is Move-Up Day for the students from 11:00-12:00. What that means is that the students will have a chance to see what their next year's grade is all about. They will get to meet the teachers, see the classrooms, and learn a little about the curriculum.
Thursday: Mrs. Halwa/Miss Piquette's grade 5 students will be going to the Hutterite Colony all day. The grade 1s have an in-school field trip about Building Things.
Friday: Come and check out Willow Park's skills at the Talent Show! Also, some of our grade 2s will be going to the Dr. Woods Museum.
