Weekly Update May 25-29, 2015

The last week of May is not too busy... so basically the calm before the June storm!

The official track teams were made this week and it will be the last week for high jump practice before the High Jump Competition on Monday, June 1st.

Monday - Our grade 6 students are going to the John Janzen Nature Center for a morning field trip.

Tuesday - It's an exciting day for all students - BAKE SALE DAY! The Bake Sale is a fundraiser for Nepal organized by our Grade 6 Bake Sale Committee. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross to help those affected by the recent earthquakes in Nepal. The price of the baked goods will range from $0.25 to $1.00.

Wednesday - ... the bake sale continues! The Bake Sale Committee received enough goodies to split their sale into two days. Lucky us!

Mrs. Clarke's Monday/Wednesday kindergarten class and Mrs. Kubik's kindergarten class are heading to TLC Dental for a field trip.

Lastly, our Hot Lunch is today and will be provided by Domino's.

Thursday - Mrs. Haugan's kindergarten class and Mrs. Clarke's Tuesday/Thursday kindergarten class are heading to TLC Dental again for a field trip.

Friday - Today is our Jump Rope for Heart launch assembly. The school's goal is to raise $3000. To register and to receive a $5 Kickstart Donation, have your child go to www.jumpropeforheart.ca. Please note that there is another school named Willow Park, so make sure to register with the Willow Park in LEDUC.

This weekend is Black Gold Rodeo weekend! A must for all the kids is obviously the Midway Rides & Amusements, but there is so much more to do and see! We have pamphlets here in the school or you can find information anywhere around Leduc (the Rep would be a good place to start). Have a great weekend, guys!

Weekly Update May 18-22, 2015

Welcome back, everyone!

We hope you all had an awesome long weekend! What better way to ease back into routine than with a short week?

Last Thursday's Party in the Park was a huge success. The weather was beautiful for the long walks and well done to the kids for being so well behaved there and back. Such energy you guys have! We hope the students had fun - they earned it.

As for this week, here's the scoop:

Monday: No school.

Tuesday: Daystar Church will be coming in for a whole-school assembly to introduce our last assembly theme: Perseverance

Wednesday: Hot lunch orders are due.

Thursday: Mrs. Clarke's Kindergarten class will be heading to Boston Pizza for a field trip and Mrs. Halwa's grade 5 students will be heading to Planeview for a visit.

Friday: The Kindergarten students get to participate in some activities for Mental Health Wellness with the CAP team. Last week, our Division I students took part in activities for Mental Health like Mini Mind Vacation, yoga, drama, and DrumFit. They had a blast! Have fun, little ones!

Also, Division I students (grade 1-3) are invited to try out for the school talent show at lunch recess. The talent show will be held on Friday, June 12 and more information will be available closer to the date.

Weekly Update May 4-8, 2015

Holy moly! April flew by, and now it's already May!

Welcome to the Willow Park blog! Here you will find Weekly Updates of events going on in the school. We created this blog in hopes of replacing the Monthly Newsletter. There's too much going on here at Willow Park to only update you once a month! Now for our first Weekly Update...

Running Club with Mrs. Nicole Chapman and Miss Kayla Titus has begun. The students have been meeting with the teachers and running at recess. This wind we've been getting is making it a little more challenging for everyone!

Also, High Jump practices are going on at noon recess for those students that are interested. Ms. McBlain, who recently retired, has come back to visit the kids and run the practices. Welcome back, Liz!

A few other things going on this week:

  • Tuesday - The SWAT team from the Junior High will be coming to talk to the classrooms about Hats on for Mental Health Day, which takes place tomorrow.
  • Wednesday - The children are welcome to wear their favorite hat to school, in support of Mental Health.
  • Thursday - Our morning kindergarten students will be heading to Boston Pizza! We heard from the other kindergarten students, and volunteers, that this was a delightful field trip. Have fun, guys!
    • Also, our grade 5 students will be going to the Devonian Botanical Gardens for the Wetland Wonders program for a science field trip.
  • Friday - In the afternoon, the Trochu Band will be coming to Willow Park for a special presentation. Parents are welcome to attend.
